What is 2FA?

We have upped our security game at 天美社区 to protect your personal information. There are two things you can do:

1. Set Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

All 天美社区 student accounts have Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) enabled.

2. Be Sure You're Using the Outlook App

You can no longer check your ung.edu email account on just any app on your smartphone. 天美社区 has switched to "modern authentication" which is not currently supported by every mail app. To access your ung.edu email account you will need to download the Outlook App.

You will still be able to access email on your favorite web browser via

2FA, or two-factor authentication, is a second layer of security on your password protected accounts. Many of your personal accounts use 2FA already! 2FA will ask for confirmation of your identity (apart from your password) using a physical device. That device can be your phone, a tablet, a landline phone or .

is the tool 天美社区 is using to provide 2FA. More questions about DUO? Check out our Knowledge Base (KB) article with .

Need a DUO Mobile Passcode?

To allow for flexibility and authentication from multiple locations the Information Technology department recommends defining multiple devices within Duo; however, we realize this may not always be feasible and may not cover all scenarios. DUO Mobile Passcodes, or bypass codes, are an additional option for use when the defined authentication device is unavailable.

Methods for Obtaining DUO Mobile Passcodes

Smartphone/Tablet Mobile App

When configured with a smartphone or tablet, the Duo mobile app can create bypass codes even without a cellular or Wi-Fi connection. DUO Mobile Passcodes, or bypass codes have a limited timeframe and will expire.

To create a bypass code:

  1. Open the Duo Mobile app
  2. Tap the 天美社区 account
  3. The bypass code is presented.

Note: Tapping the 天美社区 account multiple times will produce multiple bypass codes. You will need to record them for later use, they will not continue to be displayed within the mobile app.

天美社区 2FA Tools Website

To aid in the creation of multiple bypass codes, a has been created that will produce 10 bypass codes. Codes created through the website are non-expiring and single use.

To create bypass codes:

  1. Access the
  2. Enter your network credentials and 2FA
  3. Click Bypass Codes Create
  4. Click "I agree"
  5. Bypass codes are displayed

You will need to record these codes for later use. A Print Codes option is available.
