Teaching (MAT)

The University of North Georgia offers an online Master of Arts in teaching designed if you possess degrees in majors other than education and wish to become initially certified in teaching fields comparable to their undergraduate degrees.

天美社区 offers Master of Arts in teaching programs in the following teaching fields:

  • Health and PE (P-12)
  • Secondary Education - English (6-12)
  • Secondary Education - History (6-12)
  • Secondary Education - Mathematics (6-12)
  • Middle Grades certification with concentration(s) in (must select one concentration)
    • Language Arts
    • Mathematics
    • Science
    • Social Science

History, Mathematics, Middle Grades Education and Physical Education coursework is offered online. English coursework is offered in the hybrid format with a combination of online and face-to-face courses. All MAT programs require you to complete in person field experiences.

Note: This program is approved by the  to prepare candidates for initial teaching licensure in Georgia. Applicants who plan to pursue professional licensure or certification in a state other than Georgia should contact the program coordinator and appropriate licensing entity for additional information and guidance.

For Certification only, refer to the Post Baccalaureate Program.

Applicants certified in Georgia should verify with their employer or the GaPSC whether the advanced degree leads to a certificate upgrade or pay increase. The GaPSC provides the  to assist with this process. Out-of-state applicants should also verify with their employer or certification body to verify certificate upgrades.

Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Program Quick Facts

  • Cohort starts summer session

  • GACE tests required
  • Education coursework completed online with both synchronous and asynchronous classes
  • Full time internship August - May during the first year
  • Advanced content is the focus of the second year

Program Application Deadlines

All application materials are to be received prior to the deadline. If program capacity is met prior to established admission deadlines, we will stop accepting applications for admission and cancel remaining incomplete applicants. Completing your application earlier is better.
